A firefighter who served as chief of a fire department on Long Island, New York, has died after training.
The Hauppauge Fire Department announced the passing of former Chief Stephen A. Feron of the agency’s truck company. Chief Feron passed while drilling with the Suffolk County Urban Search and Rescue Team.
Chief Feron’s body was transported by Central Islip Hauppauge Ambulance Company to the Medical Examiners Office, the department noted. Few other details were available, but the New York Post reported that Chief Feron died during water rescue drills.
Chief Feron was a second-generation chief in Hauppauge. His father, Stephen B. Feron, served as Chief of Department from 1985 through 1988.
